This book has good information but is way outdated. The book is in black and white and that makes is very difficult to follow sometimes in the illustrations. The books needs to be updated very badly. As an adult I liked the information in it but my kids had no interest in this book once they looked at it.
This book is great! It has a variety of activities, recipes, and stories to keep kids entertained. You will want to plan ahead and take the necessary materials with you in order to get the most out of this book. My grandkids loved it.
I was pretty bummed with this purchase. Many people had raved about it in the reviews so I felt confident in this purchase so it was definitely a let down. I suppose if you don't have access to Pinterest or the internet it would be okay. My three children (10, 8 & 6) all love to read and only picked it up for a few minutes. We took this on our first camping trip a few weeks ago and really didn't find anything useful. Our ghost stories came from another book as well.
Good for boy scout / girl scout activities. Personally, lots of songs that I don't see my family using....but good recipes, little activities and morsels of outdoor knowledge.
Although this is a book for kids younger than mine, we've had a ball with it. We are veteran campers, and it has taught us many new and useful things. We were looking for some good, old fashioned fun, and we found it! Great job! Now when we go "glamping," hi-tech camping in our RV, I won't feel so guilty - or so lonesome for our old tent and Coleman stove days!
I just bought this recently, and it is much better than I even expected. I have a bunch of camping books in my library, and this one is better than many more expensive adult books. It has great advice even for adults, but is indespensible for camping with kids. It teaches you how to build a fire safely, cooking on the fire, (great kid favorites recipes), dealing with bugs, how to pick a camp site, what kind of Lots of safety tips too. The fun drawings make this a pleasure as well.The authors show you how to make a reflector oven. The main feature if this book is the fun activities for around the fire such as stories songs, games, etc. Teaches kids how to identify the stars easily and even identify features on the face of the moon. I plan to use this with our Cub Scouts.

Buy your kid this book, if they're even a bit interested in camping. I'm not going to lie, you could buy yourself this book if you're into camping. It's adorable and informative, with ideas on what you can do when you're out in the wilderness, how to build a proper camp fire, make kindling, cooking, yada yada! The content is fantastic!
