I'm so thankful for this guide to pray for the girls in my life! Every chapter has devotional thoughts, prayers based on Scripture, ways to apply the message to our own lives as moms, and activity ideas for little, middle, and older girls. A few of my favorite chapters include "May she be content in God and in the plans He has for her," "May she set her mind on the things of God," and "May she embrace the process of being conformed to Your image, sanctified by You." (See? We can apply these to ourselves as well!) Teri Lynne will feel like your biggest cheerleader as you read her book. Learn from her wisdom, experience, and encouragement.
Teri Lynne Underwood’s new book Praying for Girls is an amazing resource for those of us raising young women in the 21st century. Packed with Scriptures, personal anecdotes, and stories from several seasoned moms of girls, Underwood’s book is an encouragement from start to finish.The structure of the book is very easy to navigate, dividing the prayers into five goals: praying for your daughter’s identity, heart, mind, relationships, and purpose. However, if a reader needs to skip around a bit, the book works that way too. Underwood's prose is clear, her Bible teaching sound, and her experience truthfully told.I highly recommend this book and am so very glad this resource is available. I have purchased and shared it with some moms of little girls I know. My only wish is that it had been available ten or even fifteen years ago!I am a member of the launch team for this book and received a review copy. I am posting an honest review of my own volition.
I have two grown sons, and though I am not a mother of girls, as a teacher and cheer coach I have personal relationships with many girls during the school year. Throughout my career, I have prayed for many girls (and boys), but this book shows me ways I can better focus my prayers for many specific situations that young people face. Along with the scripture-based prayers, each chapter contains "Girl Talk" activities for moms and daughters (divided into three age groups---little girls, middle girls, and big girls), wonderful and practical ways for moms to engage girls of all ages in conversations tied to the very prayers they have been praying for their daughters. No girls have too many people praying for them, so even though I am not their mom, I will be using this book to help guide my prayers for the many girls I love. If you have girls you love, whether they are your daughters, granddaughters, students, nieces, or friends, this book is a wonderful resource.
I loved this book, as evidenced by all the notes in the margins, underlined sections, and dog-eared pages! I thought it was a fantastic guide for praying SPECIFIC Bible-based prayers for my daughters. It really revealed some weaknesses in my heart and reminded me of important truths that I hadn’t thought about since becoming a mom. Thank you so much for this TREASURE Teri Lynne!
